In December 2023, UPS announced that from April 2024, a surcharge of USD 1.00 will be charged for the use of printed commercial invoices. This surcharge will be increased again by UPS in July and October 2024.
To avoid this surcharge, AEB has revised the value-added services “Paperless Invoice” and “Paperless Invoice (additional doc.)” in Carrier Connect for the transport service providers UPS EMEA, UPS US, UPS CA, and UPS Asia.
"AEB Private Cloud" or "on-premises" operation models: Installation of service pack
Download the latest service pack with the name “Carrier Engine 3.0” from the AEB Service Portal under Downloads – AEB Engines – Service Packs and then install it in your system. The additional entries are written to the EDI as soon as one of the two value-added services mentioned above is used.
Additional, new documents:
- UPS Paperless Freight Packing List (for freight shipments)
- UPS Paperless Packing List
These two new documents can optionally be added in the carrier configuration of the above-mentioned UPS transport service providers. They are then available on the document sheet in the shipping order and are automatically printed when the label is printed in the shipping order.
How to enable the documents in Carrier Connect:
- Go to Master data – Carrier configurations to open the relevant carrier.
- On the Documents sheet, click New to add the document type or click Generate suggestion to add all available documents.
- If you use Generate suggestion, documents that may have already been deleted will reappear. Therefore, remember the original list of your documents in order to delete unwanted documents again.
- Save the carrier configuration.
Please note: The two new Paperless packing lists are optional in case you wish to print them out. If this is not the case, you do not have to do anything in Carrier Connect.

If you wish to avoid the surcharges, you must enable various settings in your UPS account on ups.com (Accounts and Payments) according to our knowledge, see User Guide "Updating preferences for UPS Paperless® Invoice". If you have not received an email from UPS with the required information, please clarify this with your UPS contact as soon as possible.
