The Incoterm FCA stands for ‘Free Carrier’. It applies to all types of transport and is one of the so-called dispatch clauses where the seller does not assume the costs of the main transport (Group F).
Here, the seller bears all the costs and risks until the goods are handed over to the carrier. This means that the seller is responsible for packaging, inspection, and clearing the goods for export at their own expense. After that, the buyer bears the costs and risks associated with the delivery of the goods. They are therefore responsible for the main transport, transit and import.
The designated place of delivery is either a location belonging to the seller (loaded onto the carrier's vehicle) or the unloading point at a shipping terminal (e.g. airport, port or freight station).
- This Incoterm is very well suited to container transport.
- Remember that when calculating the statistical value, the associated costs up to the EU external border must be added to the value of the goods.
