- We recommend setting up a project with AEB to configure carriers. If you wish to configure carriers on your own in close consultation with AEB or make routine changes, you need the role I_CAI_SETUPCARRIERS or I_CAI_EDITMASTERFILEDATA. You can coordinate the process by submitting a request through the AEB Help Center.
Overview of pickups
In Carrier Connect, shipping orders are assigned to a pickup to be picked up by the carrier. You can automate how pickups are created by selecting a defined strategy (“Strategies for automatically detecting pickups”), or you can create pickups manually.
Once you have assigned all the shipping orders you want to a pickup, Completing the pickup and transmitting the EDI (“end-of-day settlement”) – either through your host system or directly in Carrier Connect. This transmits the shipping order data to the carrier via EDI and generates a PDF loading list, which can be printed out and given to the driver for a signature.
- Completing the pickup does not notify the carrier to assign a driver to pick up the packages. This needs to be organized separately through a regular daily pickup or an EDI message or web service notification. If you want to explicitly order a pickup through Carrier Connect, select a pickup service such as the “Pickup booking” value-added service from FedEx.
Strategies for automatically detecting pickups:
- Per shipping point: Carrier pickups are automatically generated for each shipping point. Currently, it is possible to have only one open pickup per shipping point.
- Per shipping point / account: Carrier pickups are automatically generated by shipping point and account. Currently, it is possible to have only one open pickup per shipping point / account.
- Per shipping point / carrier address: Carrier pickups are automatically generated by shipping point and carrier address. Currently, it is possible to have only one open pickup per shipping point / carrier address.
- Per shipping point / service: Carrier pickups are automatically generated by shipping point and service. Currently, it is possible to have only one open pickup per shipping point / service.
You also have the option to specify a date criterion:
- Default: The dispatch date of the shipping order must be less than or equal to the pickup date.
- Same day: The dispatch date of the shipping order must equal the pickup date.
- None: The dispatch date of the shipping order is not evaluated. The oldest open pickup is used.
Configuring automatic pickup assignments
Proceed as follows:
- Go to Master data – Carrier configurations to open the carrier configuration.
- Under Strategy for detecting pickup – Find pickup, select a strategy. Depending on your selection, you can also specify a date criterion.
- If you want new shipping orders to always be assigned to the oldest open pickup, select the strategy Different and Per shipping point, then the date criterion of None. The dispatch date of the shipping order is now disregarded. The oldest open pickup is used.
- Save the carrier configuration.
Configuring manual pickup assignments
