Once a declaration is submitted to CDS it is important that the declarant can access the information associated with that declaration, such as the declaration status. This allows them to understand any further actions that may be required to progress the declaration.
In Customs Management you can request the status information of a Customs declaration from the Declaration Information Service (DIS). You can use this query to find out the current status of your declaration with Customs.
The query is available for declarations that are sent directly to CDS, or transmitted via a Community System Provider (CSP) with the current exception of MCP.
Submitting a DIS Query
To submit a DIS query, the declaration must be at least at the status of sent.
Note that declarations submitted more that 180 days before will not be retrieved by a DIS query.
Proceed as follows to send a DIS query:
Open the declaration and click on Send DIS query.
Click OK on the confirmation screen to send the message now. The declaration will close.
To check if a DIS query has been sent, or if a DIS response has been received, open the declaration again and select the Customs information tab. In the Customs messages section, a DIS query / DIS response message will be shown along with the processing status of the message.
Note that you will not be automatically notified when a response is received.
When a response to the message is received from Customs, a new sheet called DIS Status will appear in the declaration.
The DIS Status sheet will display some general declaration data and the following codes:
- The Import Clearance Status (ICS) code describing the clearance status of the declaration.
- The Inventory Return Code (IRC) - only for declarations that are inventory linked.
- The Route of Examination (ROE) code showing the control status of the declaration.
Note that the status information is not updated automatically. To update the data to the latest information, you must send a new DIS query.
See the relevant HMRC website for a current list of ICS codes and ROE codes.
