Release switch

HMRC confirmed that the new EMCS release to move onto the new platform will take place as follows:
UK EMCS to be taken offline from 12:00 GMT / 13:00 CET on Friday 16 August 2024
New UK EMCS to come online from 10:00 GMT / 11:00 CET on Monday 19 August 2024
This makes the revised Live Implementation Date Monday 19 August 2024.

Within this period of downtime, any Excise movements that are required will be subject to the existing Fallback Procedures, as per the guidance.


Please note: You need to do the grant authority task  and means that when HMRC do their update, you will be ready. Please follow How do I Grant Authority for the AEB Software to Interact with EMCS?

The change of the API is a mainly technical change in the interface between AEB and EMCS. To be able to use the new interface, customers still have to take action.

Customers  have to authorise EMCS in their Government Gateway account. Before they can start to submit EMCS messages via the new API to the UK EMCS system, they must grant authority for AEB software to communicate with EMCS and HMRC on their behalf.

    • A release change is scheduled for August. Please follow the further information and calls to action in this article.
    • ASSIST4 will switch to passive maintenance on 01.01.2025

    For the live introduction of the new EMCS Filing: UK release on August 5, 2024, activities are required on your part:

    • You must authorize EMCS in your Government Gateway account. Before they can start submitting EMCS messages to the UK EMCS system via the new API, they must authorize the AEB software to communicate with EMCS and HMRC on their behalf.

    HMRC have advised that the planned update of the UK EMCS system over the weekend of 2-5 August 2024 has been postponed, with no new date yet set.
