Technical Background
From the moment they are presented to customs, non-Union goods may only be stored in approved temporary storage facilities. The temporary storage facility serves to ensure customs supervision until they are placed under a customs procedure or re-exported.
In principle, the goods may not be altered during temporary storage.
In Germany, the authorization of a temporary storage facility is a prerequisite for approval as an authorized consignee.
Non-Union goods in temporary storage must be placed under a customs procedure or re-exported within 90 days from the date of presentation or the date of submission of the temporary storage declaration. An extension of the deadline is not possible.
Further information about this can be found on this German customs webpage: Vorübergehende Verwahrung.
